“The Perfect Storm” is a saying that we hear all the time, but in my world it is a literal representation of everything coming together in the culmination of a pristine moment in time intertwined with divine intervention. I headed out east to try to chase a cell I found would be popping up in a few hours on radar. Then came the tornado warning I heard about on the way out so I navigated towards the cell that I thought would be most advantageous. I hit an area where I had to decide to try to get closer to the cell or stay on the periphery where I could move around but stay out of the wet zone, so I chose the latter, which ended up being the decision of the night. It was a light show for almost an hour with beautiful lightning formations flashing through the night sky. As the night progressed, I tried taking more unique photos and settled on this frame at the perfect moment before I captured this beautiful fractured lightning in the night sky. I have taken a lot of lightning photos over the years but this is by far one of my favorites! This was a single 30 second exposure which shows truly just how active this night sky was.
