Moonbow (Variation 2)
Moonbow (Variation 2)

A couple of years ago I saw a photo from a National Geographic photographer which created a concept in my mind that I knew I wanted to shoot. A “moonbow” is a rainbow that is created from refracted light from a moon instead of the sun. They are extremely rare because you need to have high illumination of light from the moon (full moon or very close), you need a lot of water flowing from a waterfall (typically near peak), almost no cloud cover, and high wind to push the water particles around. The moonbow is actually very faint to the human eye but if you know what you are looking for then you can find it, and the long exposure of the camera brings it to life. This was a life changing moment for me as this was an experience I long wanted to have but didn’t know when or how I was going to bring this to fruition.
